'Reimagining Capitalism in a World on Fire'

Can business save the world? Can you? Rebecca’s research and teaching explores what it’s going to take to build a just and sustainable capitalism.

It is possible to create a better, more sustainable future. But only if we act with urgency – and in concert with one another. This belief has driven Rebecca’s work for the last ten years and is at the heart of her latest endeavor: “Reimagining Capitalism in a World on Fire,” a best-selling book that spells out how business can become a critical ally in the battle to rethink capitalism.

In this session you will learn:

Rebecca's talk offers both a new intellectual framing and a plausible path forward for a capitalism that has lost its commitment to freedom and prosperity in the single-minded pursuit of maximizing shareholder value.

  • A pragmatic roadmap for how business can help to catalyze the systemic change we need to build a capitalism that works for everyone.
  • Henderson’s deep understanding of how change takes place, combined with fascinating in-depth stories of companies that have made the first steps towards reimagining capitalism, provides inspiring insight into what capitalism can be.
  • Henderson provides the pragmatic foundation for navigating a world faced with unprecedented challenge, but also with extraordinary opportunity for those who can get it right.

The adventure took him from humble beginnings to the stars. Learn how you, too, can find ideas so good they’re scary, lean into your fear, and achieve liftoff.

In this session you will learn:

  • How to analyze your passions and use them to guide decisions
  • How to go against convention and enter unfamiliar industries - from taking risks to stand out from the crowd, to finding a better way of doing things.
  • How to find great people
  • How to funnel your frustrations into valuable businesses by organizing your ideas into manageable lists that springboard innovations

Company Life Cycle: How to Act Your Company's Age

Aswath Damodaran is the Professor of Finance at the Stern School of Business at New York University. He teaches corporate finance and valuation courses in the MBA program. His research interests lie in valuation, portfolio management, and applied corporate finance. He has published in the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics and the Review of Financial Studies.

In this session you will learn:

As disruption and uncertain unsettle companies, they are being sold a bill of goods by consultants, bankers and business experts that there is pathway for every company, no matter what it's standing, to make its way back to profitability and growth. Not only is this a lie, but the money spent in the process, is a drain on shareholders and society. Learning to live within limits requires companies to understand when their best days are behind them, accepting decline and death, in some cases, and growth and change, in others.

  • The value of dissent in a workplace—and how to implement it

'Creating Change'

Nobel Prize–winning activist Malala teaches you how to be an activist in your own community, from research and strategy to action and impact.

Learn Malala’s framework for influencing change: Research issues, build a strategy, take action, and create an impact right where you are.

In this session you will learn:

  • Small actions you can take that will contribute to your cause in impactful ways.
  • How Malala looks to both her heritage and her future aspirations to inform the values she holds true.
  • How you can set actionable goals, using the research you’ve done
  • How to get your mission moving through petitions, protests, and legislation
